Natural Habitat: Shallow still water ponds

Temperature: High 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit (17 – 24 Celsius)

Tankmates: Neons, Exclamtion point rasbor, Moth Catfish, Cory cats

General Care: They Look Great in a well planted tank with hiding areas

Feeding: Not a picky eater; small live foods such as microworms and daphnia, tiny pellets, golden pearls; wild fish may need a feeding period of live food to get them adjusted

Sexing: Males have an arched back, no rounded belly and more vibrant colors; Females have a more round belly, and a black ventral spot

Inducing spawning: A heavy diet of live foods induces spawning; keep in a M:F ratio of 1:2

Care of eggs: Adults will eat eggs, so seperate from parents

Feeding fry: Infusoria in the first week, move onto microworms for 3 weeks, and finally onto baby brine shrimp

Growing out fry: Seperate from parents, and keep in a cycled, heated tank with frequent water changes
